Tips on gaining self-confidence:
Challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone.
Latin dancing has been instrumental in helping me step out of my comfort zone. Since I was introduced to it, I have become more comfortable with letting loose and having fun without fearing judgement. I am still continuing this journey to becoming more secure with myself.
Travel to other countries! If not, taking short road trips to another city!
During my childhood, my family stopped going on short road trips. However, those moments were the foundations in building my relationship with my family. I felt free and inspired by nature. The change of a new environment allowed creativity to flow back to me, reducing art blocks. As an adult, I started to venture out on my own. This included taking the Amtrak and exploring my new environment after moving out. After visiting Mexico City in 2023, I started to plan on traveling to other countries more. That nostalgic feeling of being inspired and free all came back to me.
Join organizations that you're interested in.
Joining clubs and organizations can help you build your confidence in socializing with others. For me, I found that joining an art club or an Asian American & multicultural focused organization was particularly helpful. Both groups aligned with my passions and values, which made me resonate with their purpose. I became so passionate that I somehow challenged myself to grow my leadership skills and eventually became a co-founder, Vice President, or even filled in leadership board positions. I felt like I blossomed from a shy-reserved introvert into a more sociable-ambitious introvert.
Take some classes on learning something new.
Expanding your knowledge can help you grow as a person. Studies have shown that learning will help you build resilience and gain more confidence in yourself. I had always loved learning about my cultural roots and social science. This helped me gain confidence in myself as I continue learning more about my identity or how beautiful/interesting humanity is in general.
